SHIKARPUR, April 4: Another man fell prey to a running dispute between two groups belonging to different communities in Khanpur on Monday, taking the death toll to five in two days.

On Sunday, four people were killed and eight were injured in a clash between Jatoi and Arain groups. The clash took place when a group armed with automatic weapons attacked some shopkeepers after a scuffle.

On Monday, Asif Shah, a former councilor, was killed and his companion Wazeer Ali Arain was seriously injured when their motorcycle came under fire near Khanpur. They were attacked by a group of armed men hiding in bushes near Dargah Tabib Shah.

Wazeer Arain was taken to a Larkana hospital.

The two groups have been fighting with each other since a member of Arain community was killed during a robbery bid in the main Bazaar of Khanpur a few months ago.

Meanwhile, a shutter-down strike was observed in the town on the second consecutive day on Monday in protest against the bloody clash.

Police registered a case on Monday against 40 men of Arain and Baloch communities for killing Hakim Ali Jatoi and Bhoro Jatoi on a complaint lodged by Shahzado Jatoi.

Sixteen of 40 nominated men have been arrested.

Mansaf Khan Baloch, brother of deceased Haji Maqsood Baloch who was killed in Sunday’s clash also lodged an FIR against some unidentified armed men.
