KARACHI, April 4: Hosts Aga Khan University (AKU) beat IBA-Reserves 2-1 in the inaugural match of the 9th AKU Inter-University Football Tounament-2011 at the AKU Football Ground here on Monday evening. The goals for the winners were scored by Rehan Munir (third min) and Omer Akhtar (48th min) while Rizwan Ahmed Khan (38th min) reduced the margin for the losing side.

In another match played earlier, Ziauddin University (ZU) beat Baqai Medical University (BMU) 2-1. Attaullah of BMU scored first, in the third minute, to give his side an early lead but Syed Ali Bazil (eighth min) and Raza Naqvi (12th min) of ZU soon got their side ahead to maintain the lead till the final whistle.

Meanwhile, PAF-KIET presented a 5-1 thrashing to Jinnah Medical and Dental College (JMDC). Waqar Hussain scored a hat-trick for the winners when he found the net in the 10th, 56th and 57th minutes while Waqas Ilyas (36th min) and Danish Hasan Rizvi (38th min) added another two. JMDC’s only goal was scored by Munsif Adil (fifth min).

The matches were supervised by referees Naseer Ahmed, Khalid Mumtaz, Abdul Wahid and Javed Bangash with Munawar Khan as the match commissioner. Sajjad Akbar was the official scorer.
