PESHAWAR: MMA vows to improve economy

Published October 15, 2002

PESHAWAR, Oct 14: Provincial MMA leader and Jamaat-i-Islami chief Prof Mohammad Ibrahim has vowed that the religio-political alliance will honour its commitments and put back the derailed economy on the path of progress and prosperity.

He was addressing a press conference on Monday at Al Markaz-i-Islami (provincial headquarters of the Jamaat), following the meeting of the newly-elected party candidates.

Siraj-ul-Haq, provincial general secretary of the JI and newly-elected MPA, and Hakeem Abdul Waheed, Peshawar MMA chief, were also present on the occasion.

Mr Ibrahim said the MMA would try to redress the problems of the common man, particularly, pertaining to the price hike in utility bills and non-availability of basic amenities to the citizens.

He said the JI would not recommend any of its candidates for the Chief Ministership (MC), saying that only central leadership of the MMA had the mandate to decide the issue.

In reply to a question, he said the independent elected MPAs should join the MMA parliamentary party, but added that it was his personal view.

He vowed that the JI would try its best to strengthen the alliance at any cost.

Replying to another question, he said the MMA was united for a greater cause, and described the news of differences as disinformation. He stressed the parties outside the MMA that they should struggle for the people’s rights.—PPI
