PESHAWAR, March 17: Suspected militants attacked at a truck terminal located near Karkhano Market here early Thursday and torched two containers carrying goods for Nato forces in Afghanistan.

A police official said that the incident took place at about 2am, when a group of militants attacked the terminal. He said that they used light and heavy weapons, including rocket launchers, in the attack and later escaped towards the Khyber Agency before police could reach the spot.

He said that the drivers luckily escaped unhurt. The rest of vehicles and containers were saved by the rescuers of city fire station. A case against unidentified terrorists was registered at Hayatabad police station.In another incident, suspected militants attacked a police checkpost at Achini Bala area in the outskirts of the city late on Wednesday night. A police official claimed that the attack was successfully repulsed.

He said that the exact number of attackers was not known but the militants attacked the post from three sides and later disappeared toward the nearby Khyber Agency. “We have started a search operation in the area but no arrests have been made in this regard so far,” he said. — Bureau Report
