LAHORE, March 8: Singer Tassawar Khanum enthralled Lahorites with her melodious voice after a break of 12 years at Awan-e-Iqbal on Tuesday.
The musical evening was organised by the Pakistan National Council of Arts (PNCA) in connection with the International Women’s Day. PNCA Director General Tauqeer Nasir was chief guest on the occasion.
The singer told Dawn that it was a good experience to perform in Lahore. “Most of the time I was busy performing in Karachi. Now I had an invitation from PNCA and came here for this musical evening.”
Khanum opened the evening with Nasir Kazmi’s Ghazal Dil Mein Ik Lehar Si Uthi Hai Abhi. She also sang her popular songs like Way Sab Taun Sohnya and Bari Thani Charya for more than an hour.
Earlier, the Lahore based Performing Arts Troupe of PNCA gave dance performances on Khanum’s three songs to pay her a tribute.
On this occasion, film director Javed Raza shared with the audience some of the memories associated with Khanum’s singing career. He said Khanum’s songs were copied in India many times.— Staff Reporter
