LAHORE, Feb 27: Scores of people on Sunday staged a protest demonstration in Sanda shortly after a man was shot dead and another was injured critically at a wedding party.

The angry people blocked Sanda Road to protest the incident, throwing traffic out of gear for two hours.

Riasat Ali and his brother Orangzeb were attacked in a wedding party of their friend. Quoting witnesses, a police official said Sharafat Ali of the area where the marriage was being solemnised quarreled with another man over a petty issue. Riasat tried to settle the issue.

Sharafat, however, got furious over his interference and left the place after exchange of words with him. He returned with his two friends, opened fire on Riasat and injured him critically. The assailant also shot at and injured Riasat's brother Orangzeb who came to rescue him.

The indiscriminate firing created panic among the participants of the wedding party and people of the area.

Rescue 1122 shifted the injured to a hospital where Riasat was pronounced dead and condition of Orangzeb was said to be critical.

Police reached the scene hours later and this enraged the locals who blocked the road and burnt tyres. The protesters dispersed peacefully when police officials assured them of justice.
