PESHAWAR, Oct 8: The NWFP Governor, Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah, has stressed the need for quality education to ensure international recognition of degrees being awarded by the universities in the province.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the newly-established 3rd Campus of the NWFP University of Engineering and Technology at Abbottabad on Tuesday, the governor said that without a balanced approach desired results cannot be achieved.

He said that due to an unrealistic attitude and ineffective policies the education sector has suffered a great deal.

Referring to the need for a campus at Abbottabad, the governor said, that was not only the desire of the people of this area, but Abbottabad is also the ideal place for such an institution.

He appreciated the efforts of both the management of University of Engineering and Technology as well as the district administration in making the project a reality in a short time.

The governor announced a grant of Rs15 million for the college, whereas, both the district government and the administration of the BISE, Abbottabad, hinted at providing Rs10 millions each for this project in future.

Earlier, Air Vice-Martial Sardar Khan, VC of the University paid rich tributes to the governor for his support.

He also declared that all the libraries, laboratories and workshops of the university would be fully equipped in two months time.

Earlier, the governor formally inaugurated the campus.

The function was attended by the Provincial Minister for Education Syed Imtiaz Hussain Gilani, District Nazim, Abbottabad, Col Ghulam Mustafa Khan Jadoon, and a large number of educationists and others.
