KARACHI, Feb 23: A sessions court on Wednesday granted interim pre-arrest bail to the KESC chief in an unintentional murder case till March 1.

Karachi Electric Supply Company chief executive officer Tabish Gohar along with other officials has been booked in a case pertaining to their alleged negligence because of which a 24-year-old man was electrocuted in Malir Cantt in July 2010.

The CEO along with his lawyer appeared before the court on Wednesday and filed a pre-arrest bail application.

The district and sessions judge (Malir), Syed Kausar Ali Bukhari, granted interim pre-arrest bail to the applicant against the surety bond of Rs100,000 and directed him to appear in court on March 1 for confirmation.

On Jan 26 the court indicted three other senior officials of the KESC — Liaquat Ali, Abdul Hameed Bhatti and Zameer Ahmed Sheikh — while the CEO was said to be an absconder in the case and court had issued a warrant for his arrest.

A case (FIR 163/2010) was registered against the KESC officials under Sections 319 (punishment for unintentional murder) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code on the complaint of the victim's father at the Malir Cantt police station.

Meanwhile, the same court sentenced a man to three years in prison in a robbery case.

Amin was convicted of robbing Abdul Ghafoor of cash, motorcycle and mobile phone in July 2009 within the remit of the Sohrab Goth police station.

He was also fined Rs5,000 and in case of nonpayment he would undergo another five-month imprisonment.The accused was produced before the court in custody and the judge remanded him back to prison to serve out the remainder of his sentence.

He along with his absconding accomplices was booked under Sections 392 (punishment of robbery) and 34 of the PPC on the complaint of the victim.
