LAHORE, Feb 22: Deputy Inspector General (Operations) Rao Sardar Ali on Tuesday suspended from service two SHOs and an in-charge (investigation) for their alleged connections with land mafia.

The DIG also directed the Saddar Division SP to hold an inquiry into the similar allegations levelled against five other police officials. They are: Muslim Town and Wahdat Colony SHOs Shoaib Khan, Rana Asghar Ali, Wahdat Colony SIs Muhammad Iqbal, Badar Mehdi, and Faraz Ahmad.

Green Town SHO Muzammil Husain, Ichhra SHO Tahir Zainul Abidin and Wahdat Colony In-charge (Investigation) Saeed Anwar were suspended from service on the basis of evidence against them following an initial inquiry conducted by the DIG (Operations) at the office of Saddar Division SP on Tuesday.

The probe was launched when a local Rana Umair informed Punjab Additional IG Chaudhry Tanvir that a man identified as Malik Siddique with the connivance of some eight police officials had looted several citizens.

He told the additional IG that Malik Siddique in connivance with the police officials used to get fake cases registered against innocent citizens and then finally compromised with them after receiving heavy amount.

On the instructions of the additional IG, the DIG (Operations) called the complainant who appeared before him with 15 other 'victims'. They had been deprived of their money and properties by the police officials.

The victims presented dozens of fake FIRs which, they claimed, were registered against them by the police officials.

Rao Sardar directed the Saddar Division SP to complete inquiry against the five other police officials within seven days.
