CHARSADDA, Feb 9: A man was killed and five other people were injured in a bomb explosion triggered by remote control in a cattle market near Qazikhel Pul, Charsadda, on Wednesday.

Police and eyewitnesses said the bomb had been placed in the market on Tuesday night and detonated on Wednesday when a large number of people had thronged the area for routine business.

Mohammad Zeb, a cart driver, was killed and five other persons were injured in the blast. The injured were taken to Charsadda District Headquarters Hospital.

The explosion was so powerful that it made a seven-foot-deep crater in the ground. Bomb Disposal Squad personnel said a remote-controlled bomb with 5kg of explosives was used in the act of terror. After the bombing, police and other law-enforcement agencies cordoned off the area and started a search operation.

A bomb exploded near Omarzai police station on Tuesday evening. However, no casualty was reported.

According to sources, the explosion damaged the boundary wall of the police station. The blast was so severe that it was heard all over Charsadda.
