China’s Zhang claims crown

ISLAMABAD, Oct 5: Shuai Zhang claimed the girls’ singles crown Saturday defeating Shuang Wu in straight sets in what was an all-China final of the ITF Pakistan International Junior Tennis Championship at the Islamabad Club.

Zhang achieved her 6-3, 6-4 victory through a fine display of skills but her rival was equally impressive, especially in the second set that featured long rallies.

The title win earned Zhang 30 valuable points that should help her improve her ITF ranking.

Meanwhile Sri Lankans Nishenderan NS and Godamanne Harshana captured the boys doubles title overcoming the challenge of Shahzad Khan and Wasif Cheema 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 in a two-hour match.

The boys singles final is to be played Sunday with top seed Shahzad Khan taking on Alamgir Wali.
