CHAKWAL, Feb 2: A seminary student, who had allegedly been kidnapped, returned home on Wednesday after 51 days. Mohammad Ilyas, 11, was kidnapped from Lawa town while returning home from the seminary on December 12, 2010 by some unknown kidnappers.

His father Mohammad Afzal said he had received a call from his son from Pirwadhai, Rawalpindi, after which he along with a police party, rushed to the city and found him there.

Narrating his ordeal, Mohammad Ilyas said he went to the village seminary on December 12 last year but had to return as his teacher, Qari Safdar, was on leave. As he was returning home, he came across three men sitting in a yellow car. They asked him the way to the nearby village. He said as he was guiding them to the village, they dragged him into the car and put a piece of cloth on his face after which he fainted. When he regained his senses, he found himself in a small room. He said the kidnappers asked him about his father’s business, and when he told them that he was a poor farmer having a few acres, they assured him that he would be released soon.

He said his abductors did not torture him. “They reprimanded me when I insisted on going home but they did not torture me,” Ilyas said. Deputy Superintendent of Talagang Police Zulifqar Shah told Dawn that the police would soon trace the kidnappers. “To say anything about the case right now would be premature,” the DSP maintained.
