KARACHI, Jan 31: A young tailor was shot dead outside his house in Malir on Monday, police said. They added that 35-year-old Akhtar Hussain was chatting with friends outside his house in Malir Railway Colony in the second half of the day when he was targeted. “Two men on a motorbike emerged and one of them fired multiple shots at Akhtar before they fled,” said DSP Baqar Junejo, the area's supervisory police officer.

He said that the victim suffered gunshot wounds in the chest and head and died on the spot. His body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for medico-legal formalities, the DSP said.

He said the victim was a tailor and had a shop in the locality. The investigators believed enmity as a motive behind the killing.

“We have learnt that the victim had some issues related to his personal life that could have prompted such an attack,” the DSP said.

Two die in accident

A fast-moving truck hit a motorcycle near Gulbai Chowk in the SITE area, leaving two young men dead, police said.

The police added that 25-year-old Noman and his 27-year-old friend Danish, both residents of Saeedabad, were heading to work when they were hit by the truck.

An official at the SITE-B police station quoted witnesses as saying that the accident was a result of over-speeding from both sides.

While the truck driver, Safeer, blamed the riders for changing their lane without any intimation that caused the accident, the police had arrested him on a complaint of the father of Noman, Naeem Qureshi, the official said. “We have also impounded the truck bearing registration number JU-8485,” he said.

He said the FIR (62/2011) had been registered under Section 320 (punishment for qatl-i-khata by rash or negligent driving) of the Pakistan Penal Code.

The official said that the victims were employees of an industrial unit in the SITE area and used to travel together on Noman's motorbike.
