LAHORE, Jan 30: A man allegedly shot at and killed a first-year student near Gulberg Main Market late on Sunday, police said.

The police have arrested the suspect and seized a pistol from him.

The victim, Adnan, a first year student of a local college situated in Gulberg, succumbed to his bullet injury instantly, the police said.

Model Town SP Dr Haider Ashraf said the suspect, Akbar Ali, of Shakargarh, held Adnan near Main Market, shot in his head and looted valuables from him. Passersby chased and held him. A patrolling police van also arrived at the scene and arrested the alleged killer.

During preliminary interrogation, the suspect has confessed to seven incidents of robbery and firing, a police official said, adding that Akbar had injured three people in roadside robberies.

Deceased Adnan was a resident of Mardan while his father was a security guard.

The body was shifted to the city morgue for autopsy.
