SHIKARPUR, Jan 26: Former district accounts officer of Shikarpur Mohammad Rashid Umer S. Siddiqui was arrested on Wednesday on the charge of corruption. He was absconding since 2003.

A team of the Anti-Corruption Establishment arrested the accused from a bus stand where he was waiting for a Karachi-bound coach.

According to ACE sources, Siddiqui was involved in misappropriation of Rs5,800,000 meant for GP funds of government servants.

FUNDS: An amount of Rs731,286 was released to seven government hospitals and health centres in the district by District Zakat and Ushr Committee on Wednesday to provide free-of-cost medicines to poor patients.

Cheques were handed over to medical superintendents of the Civil Hospital of Shikarpur, Taluka Hospital Lakhi, Government Hospital Madeji, Rural Health Centre of Khanpur, Rural Health Centre of Sultankot, Rural Health Centre of Garhi Yasin and Ganga Bai Women Hospital Shikarpur.
