LAHORE, Jan 22: Maulana Abdul Rehman Ashrafi, vice-principal of Jamia Ashrafia, died here on Saturday. He was 80.

Maulana Ashrafi was the son of Mufti Mohammad Hasan, founder of Jamia Ashrafia. According to doctors, he died of renal failure.

Born in Amritsar, Maulana Ashrafi got religious education from Darul Uloom Deoband, India, and had the honour of being the student of noted scholar of India Maulana Hussain Ahmad Madani. He had been leading Friday prayers at Jamia Ashrafia for the last five decades and led the course of Hadith and Fiqh for four decades.

His funeral prayers will be offered at Jamia Ashrafia after Zohr prayers on Sunday and he will be laid to rest in a graveyard in Ichhra. He is survived by his wife, three sons and four daughters. — Staff Reporter
