TORONTO, Oct 3: The visiting parliamentary delegation of Azad Kashmir has strongly opposed the idea of converting the Line of Control (LoC) into a permanent border and said Kashmir issue cannot be resolved with a ‘rejected status quo theory.’

“We have come to North America with a clear message that UN resolutions be implemented now to resolve the conflict and stop bloodshed in the Muslim-dominated Himalayan Valley,” said Raja Nisar Ahmed Khan, Azad Kashmir, Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs. “We are also here to tell the international community that terrorism cannot be equated with cause-related struggle being launched by the Kashmiris for their right of self-determination,” he said.

Talking to newsmen at the Pakistani Consulate office here, Raja Nisar said the UN Security Council adopted a number of resolutions promising to hold free, fair and impartial plebiscite giving Kashmiris free choice to either join India or Pakistan.

“Let the UN implement its own resolutions and let Kashmiris decide about their own destiny,” he said. “This is a very simple way and perhaps this is the only way to resolve the dispute.”

Raja Nisar is leading a seven-member Kashmir delegation in the absence of Sardar Muhammad Syab Khalid, Speaker of the AJK Assembly, whose departure for Canada was delayed.
