BANNU, Oct 1: NWFP Governor Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah has called upon students to utilize the country’s resources to help promote education for the betterment and prosperity of the country.

The responsibilities of the new generation have multiplied and the youth must prepare themselves to meet the future challenges, he said while speaking at a public gathering after inaugurating the newly-established Girls Degree College under the auspices of the Frontier Education Foundation (FEF) here on Tuesday.  

The governor remarked that education created awareness and enabled the people to acquire the ability to make right decisions. He said the government had been focusing on the promotion of quality education to enable all the citizens to play an effective role in the development of the country.

The government was taking result-oriented initiatives and was making educational facilities available in all parts of the province, he said, adding that steps had been taken to ensure that access to quality education was conditioned to merit.

Talking about the importance of educating women, the governor said that their role was bigger in bringing about a change in the society, as, he added, educating a girl meant educating an entire future family.

He urged girls to study new disciplines and modern technologies to contribute to the ongoing struggle for the development of the nation.

The governor announced a grant of Rs50 million to be placed at the disposal of the district government. Referring to a demand regarding establishment of a passport office at Bannu, he said he would contact the federal government in that regard.

Frontier Education Minister Syed Imtiaz Hussain Gilani said the government had set up 25 colleges in the province in three years.
