LAHORE, Jan 8: A 30-year-old factory worker was killed while his brother and a sister were injured when three people opened fire on them in Karol bazaar of Baghbanpura on Saturday.

The motive for the attack is said to be a dispute between the victim and his employer.

Police investigation showed Ghulam Husain and his brother Ghulam Haider, who were employees at Bhutto Gujjar’s iron mill, failed to turn up at work for the last few days. They had reportedly taken some cash in advance from their employer. On Saturday, Bhutto and his two accomplices -- a contractor Shakeel Butt and Bhola -- reached the house of Ghulam Husain for inquiring about the absence of the brothers from their duty and return of the borrowed money. At the time of their visit Ghulam Husain was not present at home while Ghulam Haider and his other brother Mustafa met the accused. After exchange of words between the two sides, Bhutto and his accomplices opened fire, leaving the two brothers injured. A bullet also hit their sister, Asia, 35, who tried to save them.

The assailants fled the scene while Asia and Mustafa were taken to the Services Hospital where they were being treated. Meanwhile, Ghulam Haider, father of two, succumbed to his head injury at Lahore General Hospital, where he was shifted.

BODY FOUND: Nishtar Colony police recovered the body of a newborn from Atta Bakhsh Road on Saturday, suspecting it was thrown there to conceal an illicit relationship.

The police are looking into the matter.
