LAKKI MARWAT, Jan 3: The security forces and Bettani tribesmen in a swift action secured release of an official of the political administration and his companion within few hours of their abduction by unidentified armed men here on Monday.

Sources said that five armed men kidnapped political naib tehsildar Mohammad Alam Khan and his companion Mohammad Imran at gunpoint near Tajbikhel area in Frontier Region of Lakki Marwat.

“The news of kidnapping spread like a jungle fire in the tribal area and tribesmen belonging to Tajbikhel clan of Bettani tribe formed a lashkar to release the kidnapped persons,” they added.

They said that security forces and tribesmen chased the kidnappers and recovered both the persons safely. Sources said that a kidnapper was also arrested while his other accomplices

disappeared in the mountainous area taking the benefit of low visibility due to foggy weather.

Meanwhile, two persons received minor injuries when a passenger bus and a trailer collided on Indus Highway near Darra Pezu on Monday.

The Peshawar-bound bus collided with a trailer, coming from opposite direction, due to low visibility. Two passengers received minor injuries in the accident. Names of the injured passengers could not be ascertained.

Meanwhile, traffic wardens imposed fines on hundreds of drivers of public and goods transport vehicles for violating traffic laws during the last month.

Traffic Officer Sher Nawaz Khan said that special drive was launched to ensure implementation of traffic rules in letter and spirit. He said that 496 drivers of the public and goods transport vehicles were issued notices last month.

He said that Rs97,900 were collected from the violators as fines. He said that the campaign to ensure implementation of traffic laws would continue.
