TAXILA, Jan 1: The construction of first Danish school will start in Attock district in the next two months, said District Coordination Officer (DCO) Shakeel Ahmed on Saturday.

Talking with reporters in Hasanabdal, Mr Ahmed, who is also chairman Board of Governors Danish Schools, Attock region, said Rs69.44 million have been allocated for the first phase of the project.

District Monitoring Officer Waqar Ahmad and District Information Officer Shahzad Niaz Khokar were also present.

The DCO said Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif would perform the groundbreaking ceremony of the school. He said the project of establishing Danish schools would be completed in four phases, costing Rs219.76 million. He said the land for the project has already been selected in Jand, a rural area of the district.

He said in the first phase, a primary school for boys along with residential complex for teaching staff would be constructed, followed by a primary school for girls with residential block for teachers in the second phase. High schools for boys and girls will be set up in the third and fourth phases. He said each school would accommodate 450 students.

The DCO said 200 acres have been allocated for setting up two schools – one each for boys and girls.

He said the provincial government would spend Rs70 billion on establishing Danish schools in the districts of Punjab for promoting quality education. He said in this school system for the destitute under the Food Support Programme, children would be provided facilities free of cost.

He said students of far-flung areas have as much right to quality education as the children of elite. He said the Danish Schools project would not only remove disparities in educational sector but also result in polishing talent of students from remote areas.
