HYDERABAD, Dec 29: District Administrator and DCO of Hyderabad Aftab Ahmed Khatri has urged the need to set up an effective district disaster management cell in Hyderabad to save precious human lives and infrastructure from disaster in natural calamities.

Addressing a meeting on Wednesday, he said that an emergency plan for the district disaster management cell had been sent to different departments, asking them to forward their suggestions within one week.

He said the provincial disaster management cell would give the final approval to set up the cell, after which it would be activated.

He said that after the approval, different departments of the federal, provincial and district governments and semi-government organisations would be given different assignments.

The cell would work under the supervision of the district nazim/administrator who would maintain close coordination with all the departments, he said, adding that the focal person of the cell would be the EDO revenue.

EDOs of revenue, finance and planning, Wasa MD, director of the Building Control of HDA and representatives of health, roads and civil defence departments, TMOs and other officers attended the meeting.
