Gen Beg warns of agitation

BAHAWALPUR, Sept 28: A countrywide protest movement will be launched against the government if the king’s party is brought to power through rigging.

This was warned by Awami Qiyadat Party president Gen Mirza Aslam Beg (retired) while talking to newsmen at the residence of PQP’s secretary-general Masud Ahmad Chaudhry here on Saturday.

He alleged that his party candidates were being harassed and forced to join the PML-QA while nomination papers of several candidates had been rejected without any justification.

Despite pre-election rigging and oppressive measures adopted by the government, the opposition parties should not boycott the polls, he said.

Being a small party, he said, the AQP had also made seat adjustment with other parties. At least 35 candidates, including two women, had been fielded on national and provincial assembly seats, he said.

He alleged that many of them were allotted wrong election symbols and were undergoing the litigation and appeal stages.

PERVAIZ ELAHI: The PML-QA will make a landslide victory in the forthcoming general election.

This was claimed by Punjab PML-QA president Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi while talking to newsmen at the Circuit House here on Saturday.

He said his party would get eighty per cent seats in the provincial assembly particularly in the Rahim Yar Khan district.

Mr Elahi said the PML-QA had an election alliance with the National Alliance which also included Millat Party and the Jinnah Muslim League. He said 26 national assembly seats were allotted to the National Alliance and, therefore, PML-QA had not fielded any candidate in the Dera Ghazi Khan district.

LAID TO REST: All the four family members, who were killed on Friday when a heap of earth fell on them near the river bank, were laid to rest in Uch Sharif.

Mst Aziz Mai (55), Kausar Bibi (22), Shaheena (Bibi) 19 and Ijaz (7) were buried alive when they were digging earth for their mud houses in Rasulpur near Uch Sharif, 80 kms from here. Two of their relatives were rescued by army jawans.
