HYDERABAD, Sept 28: The Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal has denied news reports that its candidate from PS-44, Hyderabad-II, Syed Haq Nawaz Shah, has withdrawn from the contest.

Speaking at a news conference at the local press club on Saturday, the district president of MMA, Maulana Abdul Waheed Qureshi, termed the reports misleading, adding a disinformation campaign about Shah’s candidature had been launched.

Shah was also present in the press conference.

Maulana Qureshi said the curse of extortion had again raised its head in the province as the businessmen were being pressured to pay “Bhatta for the election campaign.

In this connection, he referred to the press conference of small traders in Karachi.

He claimed since the position of the MMA in Hyderabad was very strong therefore, a party had resorted to uncivilised practices like removal of the alliance flags and banners.

He called upon the law enforcement agencies to take notice of such provocative acts.

He also urged the voters to vote for the MMA.
