NEW DELHI, Sept 27: India on Friday inducted 10 of the latest Sukhoi jets into its air force and said the warplanes would send a signal to those with an “evil eye” on the country, likely an allusion to Pakistan.

India has become the first country besides Russia to own the SU-MKI fighter jets, Defence Minister George Fernandes said as the Russian suppliers handed over the jets at a ceremony at an airbase near Pune.

“The induction of the planes will send a proper signal to those looking at India with an evil eye,” Fernandes said. “India has now become a major power in international military aviation,” the defence minister said.—AFP
