AUCKLAND: Pakistan coach Waqar Younis says his players have to “make sure we play clean cricket” on the tour of New Zealand in the wake of the match-fixing allegations that have plagued the team.

Pakistan will meet New Zealand in two Tests, three Twenty20 matches and six one-day internationals in the seven-week tour, which starts Dec. 26.

Younis says “at the moment we are a very clean side and the boys are here to play good cricket” as “we don’t want any of the rubbish which has happened in the past.”

Pakistan Test captain Salman Butt and fast bowlers Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif have been charged under the ICC’s code of conduct over allegations they engaged in “spot-fixing” in the recent test series against England.

This is rich coming from a man who was notoriously involved in match fixing himself along wasim akram, salim malik , ijaz ahmed and more in the 90's!

If the leader would be good, the players will play clean. From senior players to all junior players, all are playing for bookies. No one plays for the sake of country's pride. This kind of statement are just to satisfy the nation.

Well, It is always the problems before the World Cup or any big Event of ICC pakistan Cricket team best players are getting hit from around the world. If Amir or Asif or even Salman Butt is available then many teams have difficulties to even reach the finals. PCB not having right people to deal this situation and forgot the Pride of a nation named Pakistan

What do you mean by clean cricket?!?!?! Nothing has been prooved against them yet. Stop putting your own ppl under the spotlight for the wrong reasons even before the verdict. Media is a very powerfull tool, please think before publishing

Besides clean cricket the Pakistanis must play their natural game and aim for wins as well as have a special eye on the forthcoming World Cup. This will automatically dispel any misgivings about the players themselves as well as reestablish the credibility of the management and the administrators in general. We the fans are really looking forward to a very competitive series, especially the ODIs because this is the last opportunity for the Pakistani players to stake their claim for the next World Cup. This will be extremely crucial for the entire unit because otherwise there is no room for any further improvement on their way to the World Cup in February 2011.
