PESHAWAR, Dec 18: The ratio of crime has decreased to some extent in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the year 2010 as compared to previous year, according to police record. However, unregistered cases have not been included in the police record.

Last year, 3,195 people were murdered in different areas of the province while this year the figures dropped to 2,501. The cases of attempted murder also reduced to 2,513 from 2,972.

However, the cases of injuries rose from 2,697 to 2727, adultery from 69 to 100 and cases of sodomy have reached to 110 to 88.

The cases of kidnapping have dropped from 414 to 304 and kidnapping for ransom from 178 to 133. The child lifting cases remained 21, both in 2009 and 2010.

The number of assaults on police has dropped from 380 to 234 while assaults on other government offices and people were 168 last year and this year 106 such cases have been registered.

Ordinary robberies were 87 last year which stand at 62 this year, highway dacoirty, which were four last year, remained zero this year. Bank robberies were 12 last year and reduced to eight this year.

Seven cases of highway robberies were registered last year while this year only two such crimes were reported. Likewise, theft cases have dropped from 880 to 799.

Similarly, cases of car theft have also reduced from 299 to 210, other vehicles theft dropped from 116 to 104 and car snatching dropped from 149 to 79.

The motorcycle theft cases have dropped from 217 to 164, motorcycle snatching reduced from 115 to 59 and fatal accidents dropped from 698 to 639.

The cases of non-fatal accidents have reduced from 1,667 to 1,604. During January 1st to Nov 16 this year some 480 people had been killed in terrorist activities like explosions, missile attacks, firing and suicide attacks.

Of the 480 people 57 were policemen, 11 Frontier Constabulary personnel, 35 army personnel and 377 were civilians.

During this period of the total 1,223 injured people 189 were policemen, 18 FC personnel, 99 army personnel and 917 civilians.

As compared to the current year the figure of both killed and injured were very high. The record of last year shows that 1,020 people had been killed in terrorist activities. Of them 149 were policemen, 22 FC personnel, 107 were army men and 742 were civilians.

Similarly, the total injured were 2,910 and out of them 360 were policemen, 70 FC men, 236 army men and 2,244 civilians.

During the year 2009, damage were inflicted on 67 shops, 921 vehicles, 21 police stations, CIA headquarters, one FC post, 25 containers, 34 building, 48 houses, 43 schools, six mosques, six generators, five cranes, eight electric towers, one shrines, one tubewell, 27 trailers, four bridges, 20 oil tankers, one cinema houses, one army checkpost, two hotels, nine motorcycles and three electric transformers.

In 2010, one police station, one police lines, 20 vehicles, 14 shops, five oil tankers, one APC, one eclectic tower and six buildings were damaged.

Likewise, in Peshawar district also the ratio of crime has dropped considerably. The murder cases have dropped from 483 to 373, attempt to murder from 561 to 453, hurt from 475 to 416, kidnapping for ransom dropped from 55 to 48, ordinary kidnapping from 67 to 39 and child lifting from 7 to 5.
