LAHORE, Dec 11: A group show of paintings opened at Ijaz Art Gallery on MM Alam Road on Saturday.
A number of fine arts fanciers, art collectors and students from art institutions came to see the art show, where six artists put on display their works.
The artists were Anam Khaliq, Aqeel Abbas, Dua Abbas Rizvi, Madiha Sikander, Rafia Butt and Usman Alvi.
Anam Khaliq's works revolved around the world such as fakeness, double standards, hypocrisy and lies. The imagery in her paintings having the medium Gouache on Wasli revolved around the stitched expressions, which showed pain and the force put upon oneself either to fit it or to be accepted in this world. The artist painted stitched lips in her paintings.
Aqeel Abbas' works in oil on canvas were all about information one gets from different sources and transform into data. The major focus of the painter was on the fact that by improving the status of knowledge one can easily enhance the standard of living.
Dua Rizvi's body of work in the medium mixed media on canvas involved a sense of unreality of the theatrical. It incorporated a jarring fusion of multiple items and spaces rather than the safety of the familiar.
Madiha Sikander's works in mixed media were based on “Wordsworth, The Borders, Act 1”, saying: “We look but at the surface of things, we hear of towns in flames, fields ravaged, young and old driven out in troops to want and nakedness; then grasp our sword and rush upon a cure that flatters us, because it asks not thought, the deeper malady is better hid the world is poisoned at the heart.”
Rafia Butt's works in oil on canvas medium depicted isolation. She modelled every space into her space. Her paintings had a lot of divisions; some were naturally there, others had been deliberately added by her.
Usman Alvi's works in the medium Gouche on Wasli showed the physical connection between objects and him because the artist could not speak and hear.
The exhibition will remain on display for more than a week. — Staff Reporter
