LAHORE, Dec 4: The AGHS Child Rights Unit’s Children Association (CA), an association of over 1,000 children working together for their rights across Pakistan, celebrated the Universal Children Day by organising an event on ‘Children’s Right to Participation’ at the Cultural Complex in Qadhafi Stadium to create an awareness about their rights and push for their inclusion in their mainstream.

Children from Amin Maktab, Technical Services Association, Fountain House, Pakistan Society for the Rehabilitation of the Disabled and the Foundation for Rehabilitation and Education for Special Children performed at the event.

Children from alternative care homes, SOS Village, Darul Shafqat, Lahore; Khaliqia Foundation, Sargodha; Apostolic Grammar School, Lahore: Jinnah Basic School, Mansehra; Gateway International, Abottabad; and Government Girls High School, Rawalpindi; also performed at the event.

Performances included plays on educational themes, national songs and dances. The event concluded with a performance by a theatre group from Kasur.

These children presented a play called “Mundri Deewa”. The play was based on a subject that people in today’s age had become so materialistic and wished for their wants and desires to be fulfilled without any hard work while the biggest strength of humans was the ability to acquire education, and if they only concentrate on that they could achieve all they wanted.

The program was moderated by CA members Sara Gul (a student of Lahore Grammar School) and Aimen Adnan (a student of Garrison Academy) and attended by around 300 children from Lahore, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Islamabad, Kasur, Sargodha and Sialkot.

The event was presided over by advocate and human rights activist Hina Jilani, who greatly appreciated the performances of the children and urged them to collectively work together for their country.
