LAHORE, Sept 21: An accountability court will indict on Oct 2 a former Punjab chief secretary, a former chairman of the Lahore Zila Council and three others for causing a Rs1.43 billion loss to the exchequer.

The court on Saturday handed over the copies of the reference to accused Javed Ahmad Qureshi, former CS, Chaudhry Zulfiqar, ZC ex-chairman, Imtiaz Qadir and Shaukat Ali Maiken, two officials of the Zila Council, and former MNA Haji Kabir.

Presently in Haripur Jail, Haji Kabir has been exempted from personal appearance. He is being represented by his counsel who received the reference copies on his behalf.

Javed Ahmad Qureshi has already been granted pre-arrest bail by the court on grounds that his arrest warrants have not been issued by the NAB chairman and that he cannot be arrested by the NAB authorities.

Proclamation process against two other accused, including former ZC chairman Chaudhry Shaukat Ali and contractor Abdul Qayyum Khan, is in progress for declaring them proclaimed offenders following their absence from the court.
