SBP ‘probe’ against Chaudhrys

LAHORE, Sept 19: State Bank governor Ishrat Hussein has ordered an inquiry into the complaint filed by Tehrik-i-Insaaf chief Imran Khan against the Chaudhris of Gujrat for loan write-off.

According to a press release of the PTI, Mr Khan had written to the SBP chief on Sept 13 and sent MCB annual report for the year 2000 to establish that Chaudhry Shujaat and Chaudhry Pervez Elahi had got Rs240 million loan written off outstanding against the Punjab Sugar Mills, of which the two were directors.

The governor had directed the relevant MCB officials to investigate the matter and report as soon as possible, the release adds.
