Jhang no more a PML-N stronghold

JHANG, Sept 17: The PML-N which won all five national assembly seats in the Jhang district in 1997 could field only one candidate on six seats for the forthcoming general election.

In all, 40 candidates are in the fray for the six national assembly seats as per the final list of candidates issued by the office of the district returning officer.

In NA-86, Muhammad Tahir Shah (PML-QA), Maulana Rehmatullah (MMA), Qaisar A Sheikh (TI), and independent candidates Munawar Abbas Shah, Qamaruz Zaman and Muhammad Ashraf Chadhar are in the run.

Five candidates will contest the election for NA-87. They are Asad Hayat (PPP), Ghulam Bibi (PML-QA), Ali Hamayun Sipra (PML N), Nawaz Bharwana (PMP) and Zafarullah Bharwana (Ind).

For NA-88, Abida Hussain (PML-QA), Faisal Saleh Hayat (PPP), Maulana Abdul Waris (MMA), and independents Zulfiqar Ahmad Khan, Sharif Awan, Irfan Ahmad Tahir, Malik Rab Nawaz are vying to grab the seat.

At least 14 candidates are in the run for NA-89. They are Dr Tahirul Qadri (PAT), Sohaib Farooq (PML-QA), Qaisar A Sheikh (TI), Mohammad Anwar Cheema (MMA), Asad Hayat (PPP), and independents Maulana Azam Tariq, Aneesur Rehman, Khalid Mehmood, Abdul Basit Gilani, Sanaul Haq Tirmizi, Babar Aslam, Shehzad Safdar, Abdul Qudoos Awan and Mukhtar Ahmad Khan.

In NA 90, Nazir Sultan (PMP) will face Shahbaz Gujjar (MMA) and Saima Akhtar Bharwana (Ind).

Faisal Saleh Hayat (PPP), Mehboob Sultan (PML-QA), and independents Rana Attaullah, Azhar Ali Maken and Sheikh Naeemullah Akhtar will contest for NA-91.
