KARACHI, Sept 15: A newly constructed block of the Karachi Vocational Training Centre (KVTC) — an institution for the training and development of mentally handicapped persons — was inaugurated by Mrs Afshan Waseem Ghazi, wife of the corps commander.

After the inaugural ceremony, Mrs Afshan Waseem Ghazi was briefed on the working of this centre. Brigadier Agha Mazhar (R), Director for Education and Principal Mrs Robina Inam spoke on the occasion.

Mrs Ghazi appreciated the efforts of the management in helping to educate and train mentally handicapped persons.

The KVTC has introduced the concept of sheltered workshop in Pakistan — a programme through which students are given employment within the premises of the Centre. Stress is laid upon providing custom-made training according to the individuals needs, abilities and job availability in the market, concentrating in the areas of physical capacities, psychomotor skills, interpersonal skills and work habits, leading towards complete participation in all phases of community life.—APP
