`Benazir doesn`t need a monument`

Published September 20, 2010

I AGREE with Kamran Shafi that (Sept 14) because leaders are not remembered because some monuments are erected in their names but they live in the heart of their fans forever.

It will. therefore, be more appropriate if the amount of Rs.1 billion earmarked for building the monument is spent on providing residential quarters for the people displaced by the recent floods.

Those who are still insisting on creating a memorial are neither well-wishers of the present dispensation nor the followers of the assassinated leader who gave her life for the cause of uplift of the downtrodden.

The president must announce the scrapping of the project and divert all funds for the use of IDPs as has been rightly suggested by Kamran Shafi. This is the only befitting way to pay tribute to a great leader like Benazir Bhutto.
