LAHORE: Iftikhar sworn in as LHC CJ

LAHORE, Sept 7: Punjab Governor Khalid Maqbool administered oath to new Lahore High Court Chief Justice Iftikhar Hussain Chaudhry here at the Governor’s House on Saturday morning. The oath ceremony was held at the Darbar Hall of the Governor’s House and was attended by Lahore Corps Commander Lt-Gen Zarrar Azim, Rangers director general, members of the provincial cabinet, judges of the Lahore High Court, senior civil servants, lawyers and district nazims of Lahore, Jhelum and Bahawalnagar.

Chief Secretary Hafeez Akhtar Randhawa read out the appointment order and the new chief justice took oath under the PCO. The new chief justice is the younger brother of the former Punjab governor, the late Chaudhry Altaf Hussain. He was appointed as the high court judge during the second government of Ms Benazir Bhutto but was removed from service along with others following the judges case verdict.

He was however reinstated in the light of the supreme court ruling. —Staff Reporter
