RAWALPINDI, Sept 7: The Rawalpindi district government has set the target of achieving 100 per cent literacy within next couple of years.

Leading a literacy walk on Saturday, the district Nazim, Raja Tariq Kiani, said the district government would register all the out of school children aged between five to seven. “We would also ensure that no one is dropped out at a later stage,” he added.

According to some statistics, about 37% boys and 55% girls in primary school age group are not enrolled in the country.

The Nazim said there were around 300 literacy centres in the district where children of different age groups were being given education. He said more centres were being set up to impart education to the children above 7 years of age.

He called upon the people to identify illiterate children. He said the literacy department would provide them free of cost books and other items.
