President phones Afghan leader

ISLAMABAD, Sept 6: President Gen Pervez Musharraf had a telephonic contact with President Hamid Karzai of Afghanistan on Friday.

President Musharraf condemned the Thursday’s dastardly attack on the Afghan president in Kandhar and expressed his sense of relief that Hamid Karzai escaped the cowardly assassination attempt, and assured him of Pakistan’s full support.

President Karzai thanked President Musharraf for the telephonic contact and reiteration of support.

In a message addressed to President Karzai, sent earlier, President Musharraf said: “We are grateful to Almighty Allah who has protected you from the cowardly attempt on your life by some renegade elements in Kandahar.”

“The government and people of Pakistan also condemn the bomb-blast in Kabul which caused the loss of many innocent lives.

“We offer our deep condolences to the bereaved families.”—APP
