GUJRANWALA, Sept 6: An election tribunal on Friday allowed PPP candidate for NA-96 Khwaja Saleh to contest the forthcoming general elections.

The election tribunal comprising Justices Najamuz Zaman and Pervaiz Ahmad had sought the record besides issuing a notice to bank officers after an appeal was filed by Khwaja Saleh against rejection of his nomination papers by the returning officer.

The petitioner pleaded before the tribunal that he had taken a loan from the bank and it was not an offence. The bank officers, recording their statements, said Mr Saleh was paying instalments of his loan regularly and he was not a defaulter. Upon it the tribunal accepted his appeal.

PARTY TICKETS: Political and religious parties, including the PML-QA, the PML-N, the PML-J, the PPP and the Mutahidda Majlis-i-Amal, have completed the process of allotting party tickets to candidates for seven NA and 14 PA seats in Gujranwala.

Meanwhile, some parties held meetings on Friday for seat adjustments.

The People’s Party Parliamentarians awarded party ticket for PP-39 to Advocate Mian Muhammad Arif.

GUJRAT: Following the completion of the scrutiny process, political activities have gained momentum throughout Mandi Bahauddin district.

Some key personalities of political parties, including the PPP and the PML-N, are in the run for two NA and five PA seats in the district.

Former MNA Zafarullah Tarrar (PPP), ex-MNA Mumtaz Ahmad Tarrar (PML-N), Chaudhry Ejaz Ahmad (PML-QA) and Syed Mehfooz Mushahadi (MMA) are in the race for NA-108 seat.

The stalwarts who will contest for NA-109 are Zulfiqar Ali (PPP), Nasir Iqbal Bosal (PML-QA) and Munawwar Iqbal Gondal (PML-N).

For PP-116, former senator and provincial minister Chaudhry Aslam (PPP), Safia Begum (PML-N), Hameeda Waheed (PML-QA) and Rana Sarfraz Ahmad (MMA) are in the run.

Zahid Faraz Tarrar (PML-N), Asad Ali Ranjha (PPP), Chaudhry Riaz Asghar Warraich (PML-QA) and Waseem Gulzar (Independent) are contestants for PP-117.

Candidates for PP-118 are Liaqat Ali (PPP), Sikandar Hayat Gondal (PML-N), Fazal Ikram Ranjha (PML-QA) and Usman Altaf Ranjha (MP).

The candidates who will join the race from PP-119 are Ihsan Elahi (PPP), Shafqat Mahmood Gondal (PML-N), Ghulam Husain Bosal (PML-QA) and Prof Ansar Ahmad (MMA).

In PP-120, the candidates are Chaudhry Akram Gondal (PML-N), Arif Gondal (PML-QA) and Ahmad Fraz Mangat (PPP).
