Govt urged to withhold press ords

KARACHI, Sept 5: General secretary of the CPNE, Mahmudul Aziz, has urged the ministry of information and media development to hold in abeyance the promulgation of the ordinances on the formation of the Press Council and the registration of newspapers, printing presses, books and periodicals till another round of negotiations with representatives of the Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors and the All Pakistan Newspapers Society.

Mr Aziz announced here on Thursday that the text of the two ordinances as approved by the federal cabinet meeting on Aug 31 has been received by the CPNE from the ministry and any member wishing to have copies of these ordinances can do so by asking the CPNE office at Karachi on Fax 5682694 or 5845473.

Mr Aziz also urged the ministry of information and media development to expedite approval of the Freedom of Information Ordinance.
