PESHAWAR, Sept 1: Sacks of food items were distributed among the families affected by the recent torrential rains in different parts of Peshawar district on Sunday.

The food was distributed in the Government High School Mathra where people of almost 14 villages were gathered to receive the relief items.

Heavy rains in Malagori, Mathra, Patwar, Suleman Khel, Charkha Khan Khel, Speen Koruna, Sufaid Sang, Shahi Bala, Barani Koruna, Panam Dheri, Ali Kander Khel and Sara Sang have affected almost 1,500 families and 1,000 acres of cultivated area was affected by the rain water.

About 1000 affected families were provided with bags of 10 kg rice, two kg pulses, one kg cooking oil and 20 kg wheat flour per family. The relief items were distributed by an NGO workers.

Most people in these localities are poor and heavy rains have destroyed their mud houses. These people have taken shelter in few houses partly affected by rain. “We want financial support from the government because we want to reconstruct our houses and we have no money for it”, a resident of Mathra told Dawn.
