QUETTA, Aug 27: The Crime Investigation Department (CID) police seized a huge quantity of illegal arms and ammunition in Chaghai, some 250km southwest of here, on Tuesday.

“Arms and ammunition was brought from Afghanistan for terrorist activities during elections in the province,” CID SP Asifuddolah Gichki told newsmen, saying that the consignment had been dumped in a secret place.

On a tip-off, a police team, headed by DSP Kamal Khan Jogezai, raided the mountainous area of Ghulam Kochi close to Pakistan-Afghan border, and seized weapons and ammunition, including mortar shells, anti-tank shells, MM rockets, rocket boosters and eight big and small boxes of anti-aircraft shells. The gunrunners escaped from the area.

The SP said that a group gunrunners was scheduled to receive the consignment of arms and ammunition for carrying out terrorist activities during the general election in Balochistan.

A case has been registered against the unknown gunrunners.
