Mohammad Khan of Narbatawal, ANP secretary general of union council Malakpur, was on way to Pacha Bazaar from his home early in the morning when armed assailants, positioned in the graveyard around the shrine, opened firing on him.
He was killed on the spot and the assailants managed to escape after committing the crime. His dead body was shifted to Civil Hospital Pacha for autopsy before taking it home. He was laid to rest at his ancestral graveyard. A large number of party activists, friends and local people attended his funeral prayers.
Dr Shaukat Ali, the elder son of the deceased, told police that they had no enmity. He said that his father was a victim of target killing like several other leaders of the party in Buner district. Police registered a case against unidentified persons. No arrest was made.
The deceased was an active political worker since long. He also spent few years in exile in Afghanistan during the eras of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and General Ziaul Haq. He was among the key leaders of former Communist Party of Pakistan and had been jailed many times. Presently, he was among active leaders of ANP in Buner.
