Four Bidders capture weekly crown

KARACHI, Aug 26: Four Bidders with 105 Victory Points (VPs) won the weekly Swiss bridge tournament at Aslam Memorial Bridge Hall, National Stadium Sunday night.

Four Bidders comprising Chaudhry Sharif, Mushahid Siddiqui, Zafar Zaki, Hasan Sajjad and Syed Ameer Hasan performed impressively to win the title.

Starting their journey to the top, Four Bidders first thwarted the challenge of Candyland with 25-05. In the next round they outplayed Tehsin 22-08.

Dr Ilyas extended them fully but still Four Bidders managed solitary point victory to share 30 VPs equally.

Macs till then came in the forefront with score of 64 VPs winning all the three matches, but Four Bidders spoiled their clean run, registering 25-04 win.

Last round which reduced to six boards Four Bidders won the title with clean victories in all the five matches.

Macs are making their presence felt in the weekly competitions. A team comprising of Brenda Foster, Leslie Foster, Maqbool and Dr. Hasan started their run with a victory over Attackers 22-08, then defeated Solox, outplayed Four Bidders (Brig) 25-04 in the third encounter, then losing to Four Bidders (S) by the same margin 4-25.

But recollected in the last match to register an easy victory against Jamal 23-07 to occupy second position with a score of 91 VPs.

Tehsin comprising celebrated players like Pervaiz Mirza, Mohsin Chandna, Tehsin Gheewala and Saleem Ahmed also scored 91 VPs to finished third, winning three matches from Arzoo 25-05, Nazimabad Club 21-9 and Dr. Ilyas 25-04, losing two matches to Four Bidders (S) 8-22 and Candyland 12-18.

Earlier in the pairs contest forty pairs were divided in two houses. The pair of Syed Ameer Hasan-Azher topped with a 64-98 % followed by Wazir Durrani-Taqi Reza 61-73% and F.A. Naeem-Khalid Zaki 59 percent.

In the other house, Mazhar-Shoaib came on top with a score of 64.58% Nasim Arzoo-Mubashir scored 63 % for the second and Qamar Puri-Robina Hye scored 57.43% for the last remunerative berth.—APP
