MARDAN, Aug 26: NWFP Governor Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah on Monday visited the villages of Mardan district, where 10 people had died and hundred of houses collapsed in the recent flash floods. Besides, the floods had washed away standing crops over a large area.

He was accompanied by SMBR Syed Mazhar Ali Shah, District Nazim Haji Raza Khan and DIG Abdul Latif Gandapur.

The governor visited the villages of Gaddar, Hamza Kili and Baba Khail Killi, which were badly hit by the floods. He also spoke to the affected people on the occasion.

He said that a number of relief teams had already started their work, stressing the need for preparation of lists of the affectees and the estimates for material losses.

He said that besides the officials of revenue department, the Nazimeen and councillors of the respective areas had also been directed to prepare estimates of losses.

He also directed the concerned authorities to supply tents as well as edibles to the affectees on emergency basis. After the completion of the estimates, he said, the government would also look into the possibility to declare these areas as calamity- hit.

He also expressed deep sympathies with the members of the bereaved families, directing the concerned authorities to extend help to them on priority basis.
