KARACHI: MQM-H deplores amendments

Published August 23, 2002

KARACHI, Aug 22: The Mohajir Qaumi Movement has rejected the constitutional amendments announced by President Musharraf on Wednesday and said the new Legal Framework Order is tantamount to burying democratic and civilised norms of governance.

Secretary-general of the MQM, Aamir Khan, said that during the debate on the constitutional package it was clear that the people were only supportive of restoring the 1973 constitution.

Referring to the contradictions in the government position on various issues, he said that by reviving 58 (2) (b) and establishing the NSC, Gen Musharraf had acted against the will of the people, which must be deplored.
