LARKANA, May 5 Sikandar Kalhoro, whose close relative Irshad Kalhoro was killed on May 3 at the hands of Luhar clan people over a land dispute, accused the District Police Officer (DPO) Larkana, himself a Luhar, of supporting the attackers.

At a press conference at the press club on Wednesday, he said had the DPO taken notice of his complaints and adopted precautionary measures, the situation would not have taken an ugly turn. He called for an open inquiry into the incident.

He said despite our losses we are receiving threats of dire consequences from the Luhars. The matter had been conveyed to the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Larkana, he added.

He said out of 11 people nominated in the FIR, so far only four could be arrested and the main accused were roaming freely. When asked who would head the inquiry team, he said “we trust the committee being formed by the Larkana DIGP to probe the matter and if at any stage we found partiality of any member we reserve the right to go to the court of law.

He said being educated, we must follow legal course and announced to hold demonstration and also stage a sit-in on Thursday outside press club.

DPO Irfan Baloch had already suggested transferring the investigation of Irshad Kalhoro murder case to any other district.

Talking to Dawn he said he had written to the DIGP Larkana that the complainant party was suspecting injustice as the other party was his cast fellow.

Meanwhile, the investigation wing of Baqapur police on Tuesday produced four persons nominated in the FIR — Badal Luhar, Ashique Luhar, Ali Hassan and Imdad Luhar in the court of the Ist judicial magistrate who remanded them in police custody for six days.

The DPO said police had arrested three accused nominated in the FIR. Nine others, he added, would be arrested soon.
