MARDAN, Aug 19: The major political parties, including ANP, PPP and PML(N), have failed to announce their candidates for the national and provincial assemblies’ seats of Mardan district for the October general elections, Dawn learnt on Sunday.

The delay in finalizing the candidates or seat-to-seat adjustment between the parties is attributed to the graduation condition for the contestants of elections to the parliament and provincial assemblies.

The sources said that these parties also faced problems in forming electoral alliances as most of the former parliamentarians and majority of the party leaders stand disqualified for lacking the required educational qualification.

It would be very difficult for the major political parties to decide candidates for the eight provincial assembly and three national assembly seats of the Mardan district, the sources said, however, saying that the PPP had received applications from the party workers for the PA seats.—Correspondent
