Oil depot in Baltistan demanded

Published November 8, 2001

SKARDU, Nov 7: The people of Skardu and Chenche districts are facing great hardships, as there is no oil depot in Baltistan.

Whenever Skardu-Gilgit Road is blocked due to land sliding or any other reason, acute shortage of petrol, diesel and kerosene occurs, badly hitting the population of the area.

The Karakoram Highway’s recent blockade, which lasted 11 days, caused an acute shortage of the fuel. Baltistan is a sensitive area geographically and strategically. It urgently needs an oil depot to overcome the fuel crisis.
