Jobs for hockey players

Published April 17, 2010

THIS is to draw the attention of the Prime Minister and Patron-in-Chief of Pakistan Hockey that despite his clear instructions to the authorities to provide permanent jobs to hockey players in government, semi-government, autonomous bodies and corporations, no action has so far been taken in this regard.

Even departments like Pakistan Customs, Pakistan Railways, United Bank, Allied Bank, PTCL, Karachi Port Trust, State Bank of Pakistan, ADBP, PSO, Pakistan Refinery and Sui Northern Gas Company have not yet established their hockey teams on a regular basis to promote hockey in the country.

Besides the above, the National Bank of Pakistan, PIA, KESC, Sui Southern Gas Company, Wapda, Habib Bank, Pakistan Steel, Pakistan Television and Port Qasim Authority, which have their own hockey teams, have not yet offered permanent jobs to their hockey players.

The prime minister should take strict measures to establish new departmental hockey teams and also regularise jobs of hockey players on a permanent basis for those establishments where hockey teams exist to promote hockey in Pakistan so that the standard of hockey in Pakistan may be improved.
