LAHORE Pakistan won a bronze medal in the first AIBA China Open International Boxing Championship at Guiyang, China.

According to the information received here, Pakistans Mir Waiz Khan, appearing in the super heavy weight category, got a bye in the draws and reached the semi-finals on Monday without entering the ring.

He will now face Ghossoun Soumar from Syria who had beaten him in Shaheed Benazir Bhutto International Boxing Tournament in Karachi last January.

Pakistan's Naimatullah lost his pre-quarter bout in 54kgs to Chinese boxer Zhang Jiawei, claiming just one point while the winner bagged a dozen points.

Naimatullah won the gold medal at the South Asian Games in Dhaka, Bangladesh in February this year.

Mohammad Waseem, Pakistan's prominent boxer, will fight Cuba's Hernandez Andris Laffita in the 51kg weight category while Pakistans fourth boxer Nisar Khan will face Italian opponent Podda Luca.

The first AIBA China Open International Boxing Championship is being participated by 19 countries in which the host China has fielded two strong teams. In all 102 boxers and 64 officials are featuring in the event in which 91 bouts will take place.

The draw ceremony was attended by AIBA President Ching Kuo Wu, AIBA Vice President and Asian Boxing Confedera-tion (ASBC) President Chang Jianping and other AIBA, ASBC top officials.
